Rating : star. The best train ride in the Southern Tier! , 13-Jun-2003

I can't begin to say enough good things about the Arcade and Attica Railroad experience!`` I have been riding this train since I was 5 years old,(no, you won't find out how long ago THAT was...) and in recent years (12 to be exact!) have shared this adventure with my students!`` The total atmosphere of the Arcade and Attica RR is one of pure enjoyment! The staff is professional, courteous, knowledgeable, kind and accomodating.`` It's a great bargin, too! Especially for schools in the area. Not to mention, what a great learning experience - in more ways than one!`` Nothing beats being out on the open car with the smell of steam, the sound of the whistle, the flecks of soot raining down and the power of the engine right in you face!!`` I'm grateful to A&A RR for allowing me to be able to share with my students (and the many adults too, that never rode a train!) the experience and excitement of a train ride...thanks for a job well done!`` ...and God bless,

I, TOO, HAVE BEEN RIDEING THIS GREAT TRAIN SINCE I WAS ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD. MY GRANDPARENTS LIVED IN ARCADE AND WE MADE MANY, MANY VISITS TO THIS GREAT VILLAGE. THE TRAIN RIDE WAS ALWAYS A HIGHLIGHT! THE SOUND OF THE TRAIN AND THE SMELL OF THE STEAM AND HOT COAL FIRE. I REMEMBER ACTUALLY SHOVELING A LOAD OF COAL ON THE FIRE. ( MY GRANDFATHER HAD SOME PULL IN THAT TOWN, AND MADE THIS POSSIBLE!)I REMEMBER THE RIDE AND ONCE WE FOUND A COW ON THE TRACKS. IT TOOK ABOUT HALF A DOZEN MEN 20 MINUTES TO GET HER OFF! WHAT WONDERFUL MEMORIES. SO THIS SUMMER, GO FOR A RIDE ON THE TRAIN AND START YOUR OWN WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF THIS GREAT ATTRACTION!

I planned on taking my Grandson on the Train ride. I find that the steam engines are not being used due to federal regulations. I'm going to ride my bike home without any protective head gear, have a cigarette and think this over. Without steam the trip is pointless.

We do appologise for the lack of steam. Unfortunately, No18 has been out of service for the last couple of years, and it appears to be slow going for re-enstatement due to the expenditures necessary, but rest assured, 18 will be back.

14 mile round trip; 105 minutes; Engine: GE diesel; coaches:1915 & 1917;rairoad history via the speakers; Scenery: small stream; trees/shrubs; employees lacked knowledge and friendliness; shamelessly hocked souvenirs

Rating : 2 star. Diesels are boring , 20-Jan-2007

As a kid I rode on the A&A quite a few times behind the #14 4-6-0 Baldwin; last time I think was around 1988. I returned 16 years later to hear, smell and find no steam in Arcade anymore. I understand the steamers fall under scruntiny from the gov't, but a rattly, greasy old diesel just isn't the same (I have to put up with those at work!) I'm really hoping for one of these noble engines to be brought back someday so I can relive a small part of childhood. Stupid gov't reg's.
