We took this train on our honeymoon. We were staying in Saranac Lake and decided to go to Lake Placid for the day, it was a nice trip to Lake Placid, about 10 miles.````Only negative was long walk from Placid station to downtown, but still would do it again

My wife and I have ridden this train numerous times and find it a beautiful ride right through the woods between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. Although the walk to Placid village would be long, a trolley took us up there for free and brought us back. Great, professional crews and hosts. Very knowledgable and helpful. Wonderful depots at both ends.

20 miles round trip;2 hours including a 30 minute layover; Engine: 1957 GM diesel; coaches: late 1950's & 1960's CN/VIA; nice cafe/coach car with tables; scenery: lakes/beaver pond; nice patriotic music/line history through the speakers; good A/C; museums at each end of the line

The Adirondack Mountains are exceptionally scenic during the fall foliage season. The train offers fantastic views over historic trackage. I offer high ratings despite the lack of steam motive power.
