We rode in an open-air coach during a July evening. The train winds through Santa Fe, then through an open area, and then downgrade to Lamy. Ride was leisurely; there are several grade crossings and that diesel horn is good & loud.

I rode this train in 2002, and I have only one complaint: they hadn't washed the windows! The build-up of dirt on the windows was definitely an impediment to enjoying the scenery. If it weren't for that, it would be a very nice experience, and the option of riding back on a flat car was a real plus.
