Is a whole day affair, but well worth it. Exciting views grace the first 2/3 of the trip, the last 1/3 a slow meandering down to Antonito, CO. Lunch stop in the middle. A great train ride.

the route is slow and senic with classic high country new mexico scenery, but the real treat is the rolling stock. spend some time at the Chama terminal particulary--big snow plows, tender cars, multiple engines, active machine shop. My favorite part is the two engine ascent from Chama. Also the long trellis midpoint and down into antonito.
