SAM(Savannah/Americus/Montgomery) has five different train rides running on Friday/Saturday and selected Monday/Thursday. Longest ride is 84 miles roundtrip. GP40 engines on each end with one power car,five 1949 coaches and two beautifully restored premium cars with tables. At the Americus layover, the Windsor Hotel has a great $10 lunch buffet; in Plains you have time to walk to President Carter's current home compound and also buy a peanut butter ice cream cone in the town of 700. The RR is owned by the state.
