I've ridden quite a few excursion railroads and even had an offer to join the Heber Valley but this Sumpter Valley Ry. has everything I'd ever want in a tourist/excursion railroad. It's got a rich history from the beginnings of the road to the equipment it uses, even to the people who make it work. After riding it for the first time in the summer of 2004 I decided this was the one I wanted to join. The opportunities to advance in the organization, the flexibility fo operate when it's convienient for YOU, the chance to help rebuild history and the once in a lifetime opportunity to work on a railroad for people to enjoy is what it's all about! I'm now a brakeman in training and hopefully, soon to train for a conductor spot. You owe yourself a trip to Baker county to ride behind either steam locomotive on the roster; the #19 Mikado, 2-8-2 or the two truck Heisler #3. I do all the time! Maybe you'll get hooked as I did and join the SVRy. Either way it's an experience you'll not soon forget.
