The Durbin & Greenbrier Vallet Railroad offers three train rides:New Tygart Flyer;Cheat Mountain Salamander;and Durbin Rocket.I rode on the last two of these three, but my favorite ride was the Durbin Rocket. We arrived a bit early,so their small diesel locomotive(oooh,it's soooo cute)wasn't turned on yet.It was to pull us in a bright blue gondola and cheerful red caboose on a 10 mile,1.5 hour round trip departing at 11 a.m.,with another at 2 p.m.So they turned the little diesel on and the next thing I know, the horn sounded and we were off!The train traveled out of town past a small railroad yard and over a river. We rode in the gondola. For the rest of our jhourney,we traveled at a comfortable speed along a peaceful river around beautiful mountains. The ride terminated at the beautifully quiet Hevener picnic grove, next to the river ONLY.The crew was very friendly. Then we boarded the train, and all too soon, the bright yellow depot was visible again(not that I didn't want to see it).Now the railroad owns a 50 ton geared locomotive called a climax. That was just about the best train ride I ever took. It's too bad I live 400 miles away,or I would ride nearly every day!

The people were very friendly and informative. Road in the caboose and sat in the cupola. Had pleasant conversation with other riders. The scenery was the greatest. Will ride again when in the area and recommend it highly to anyone interested in trains.
