I rode this trip for my 48th State Train Ride and what a great trip they provided. I went up in April in the non tourist season getting to see Alaska as it is in the winter but with normal days and nights with no insects all from the warmth of their train. Conductor Steve made the trip most memorable with his great information about our travels and things along the way. We had a three car train with a baggage car and two large Korean built coaches with large windows. The scenery was beautiful and it was a great trip. I would recommend an April visit to anyone. No crowds and a great time to be had.

I made my 9th trip to Alaska in late May 2003. I have ridden the Alaska RR on every trip and covered all passenger routes and trains. If you are going to Fairbanks or Seward and have the time, ride ARR. Their employees are knowledgeable and helpful. In May, I told one conductor that I was interested in a cabin site at a certain milepost and he pointed at it from the vestibule with me. This year, I also rode the Glacier Express which has the option for a float trip on Spenser Lake. Later, I was the only passenger on the run up to Tunnel. The crew treated me like royalty. Just go and do it!

Did a round trip June 4 2007 from Fairbanks to Denali and returned the same day. Road coach class. Like the seats in the same car as the gift shop. On our trip car C. Also close to upper window car view above gift shop. Alaska railroad is a Tourist train you are treated very well. And the slower pace travel allows time to see a lot of Alaska including a fair amount of wild life. Would have liked a bit better selection in dinning car but food was well prepared.
