On the shores of Lake Harriet the streetcars ride again. Three restored streetcars ply part of the original right of way that once stretched from Stillwater all the way to Lake Minnetonka. So come aboard the Museum's car lines, and ride the beautifully restored Twin Cities and Duluth streetcars along the scenic rights-of-way back to the days when the trolley was king ... when Twin Citians went to work, school, and play by trolley.

The 1.5 hour-trip follows the shoreline of the St. Louis River estuary, Spirit Lake and Mud Lake. This historic route provides a chance to view wildlife in its natural environment, while enjoying the majestic beauty of the river and surrounding area. To ride on a right-of-way over 130 years old with many curves, restored coaches over 80 years old, and a narration on history is a priceless exposure to "how it was" during the early years of railroading.

The Mesabi Railway transports visitors by trolley from the main park to Glen Location. Round trip, the railroad runs 2.5 miles along the edge of the Glen mine. Spectacular vistas show off the man-made canyon whose steep walls plunge down hundreds of feet to a pit bottom now filled with cold spring water.

The Friends of the 261 is a non-profit 501(c)(3) support group which was formed to aid in the operation of Milwaukee Road 261, a massive 4-8-4 Northern class steam locomotive built in 1944. Since Milwaukee Road 261 return to operation in 1993, it has compiled an astonishing record of reliability and service.
