Excursions pulled by a 15-ton 0-4-0 type steam locomotive. The track goes south out of Cripple Creek, past the old Midland Terminal Wye over a reconstructed trestle, past many historic mines and terminates near the deserted mining camp of Anaconda, then returns back to Cripple Creek.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad operates daily through Sunday, October 20. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is America's most authentic steam railroad, just as it was for a century, from the coal tipple to the conductor's smile. Twisting and turning through the beautiful San Juan Mountains on tracks that tamed the West, you'll cross the Colorado-New Mexico border eleven times. Count them as you look down from Windy Point, up at the spires of Phantom Curve, or into the depths of Toltec Gorge.

Fort Collins Municipal Railway

Operates an original restored Birney Safety Car on its restored right-of-way. Car 21 is one of four single-truck Birneys purchased by the City in 1919. Along with additional Birneys, they provided daily service until the lines were replaced by buses in 1951. After Car 21 sat in a park for almost three decades, it was restored and the line down Mountain Ave rebuilt. Car operated continuously each Summer since 1985.

Since 1891, the Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway (the world's highest cog railroad, the highest Colorado railroad AND highest train in the United States) has taken passengers to the 14,110 foot summit of Pikes Peak. Just 70 miles from downtown Denver and 6 miles from downtown Colorado Springs, this classic Colorado train trip is open from mid April through December. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway is 8.9 miles long. The round trip lasts 3 hours and 10 minutes.

The most spectacular 12 miles of railroad in America. The Royal Gorge Route follows the most famous portion of the old Denver & Rio Grande Western train line, 24 miles round-trip, from Cañon City to Parkdale and return. The two hour train ride takes passengers through the "Grand Canyon of the Arkansas" on an unforgettable journey over the famous Hanging bridge, which clings precariously to the steep granite walls of the Royal Gorge, towering over 1,000 feet above.
