The Yreka Western Railroad Blue Goose Steam Excursion is owned and operated by the Rocky Mountain Mining and Railway Museum of Denver, Colorado. he Blue Goose excursion train travels over a railway that was first established in 1888, chugging, clanking and hissing over Butcher Hill in Yreka then down through the scenic Shasta Valley with majestic 14,162 foot, snowcapped Mt. Shasta dominating the vista, crossing the Shasta River and continuing to the old cattle town of Montague, California. Catch the Trains in Old Sacramento! Every weekend April through September, steam-powered excursion trains depart on-the-hour from the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot/Public Market in Old Sacramento, just two blocks south of the Railroad Museum on Front Street. Trains operate on a 40-minute, six-mile roundtrip route along the banks of the Sacramento River. At the end of the line, the authentic steam locomotive "cuts off" the passenger cars and "runs around" the train, coupling onto the other end for the trip back to Old Sacramento. Throughout the year, special trains and other opportunities are available for your riding pleasure!

The McCloud Railway operates delightful Open-Air Excursion Train rides through the forested slopes on the south side of Mt. Shasta. Taking a little over an hour, the excursions operate weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day departing from the historic town of McCloud. The trips feature either diesel locomotives or one of our historic steam locomotives, 1925 Alco built No. 25 or 1914 Baldwin built No. 18.

Ex-Argent Lumber Co. 5, 2-6-2 (Lima 1116 / 1910), 36” gauge, is serviceable, and is steamed occasionally during summers. This obscure locomotive is the only Lima-built narrow gauge rod engine in existence in North America.

Locomotive and Train consist depends upon the availability of Antique Equipment. Our Steam Engine is on its Winter furlough. It will return to service next Spring.

OERM operates a museum railway where visitors can ride on the classic streetcars, passenger trains and other equipment of Southern California's railroad past. The demonstration railway operates every weekend and on most major holidays from 11AM to 5PM. The Museum grounds are open every day from 9AM to 5PM with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas. The cars and locomotives are selected on a rotating basis from our demonstration railway fleet. Steam locomotive operation is scheduled for certain special events and typically one day of certain major holidays.
