Classic steam and diesel locomotives operate a five-mile line that runs near the battlefield of Bosworth Field. Step back in time. Take the five mile journey running alongside the Ashby Canal to Shenton through the South-West Leicestershire countryside, end up at historic Bosworth Battlefield Country Park.

Bittern Line

The line is some 30 miles long, connecting the magnificent city of Norwich with the north Norfolk coastal towns of Cromer and Sheringham, via the Norfolk Broads at Salhouse, Hoveton and Wroxham. Its name recognises a special, local bird, which has a distinctive booming call. Anglia Railways operates a regular, almost hourly service along the route (less frequent on Sundays) which has been described as "One of the most picturesque lines in the country".

The Bure Valley Railway is fast becoming one of England's premier narrow gauge railways, offering a service second to none to the enthusiast, traveller and tourist in all seasons of the year. Our steam and diesel trains pass through scenery which is as varied, interesting and beautiful as any to be found on a railway journey in England. The two main stations are at Aylsham and Wroxham, with three small ones in between.

The Leighton Buzzard Railway is one of the few narrow-gauge light railways to survive in England. Built in 1919 to transport sand, the line has carried a steam-hauled passenger train service since 1968, and now houses one of the largest collections of narrow-gauge locomotives in the United Kingdom.

visit to the Caledonian Railway between Brechin and Bridge of Dun is a wonderful day out for all the family, whatever the weather, with a wide variety of things to do and see. The railway has a fleet of nine steam engines and ten diesel locomotives Some are working, others are undergoing overhaul and the rest are awaiting finance and their turn for restoration. Steam hauled trains operate every Sunday from the last Sunday in May through to the middle of September. Throughout July and August trains also operate on selected Saturdays.

The Cathedrals Express is a steam-hauled express train which runs every Wednesday during the summer months from central London to England's premier cathedral cities, Canterbury and Salisbury. There is no better way to visit one of England's beautiful medieval Cathedral cities and its surrounding countryside than on a train pulled by a fabulous 1940's steam engine. Imagine the scene of your departure: the handsome green and gold steam engine stands puffing gently at the platform, evoking the civilised travel of the bygone steam age.

Flying Scotsman is the most famous steam locomotive in the world and has always been a very distinguished and special locomotive since being built. It is now a national icon representing all that is best in British engineering. Kent & East Sussex Railway

The 10.5-mile K&ESR, one of the first lines to be opened under the Light Railways Act of 1896, links the jewels of the Weald, Tenterden and Bodiam Castle, passing the Sussex village of Northiam on the way. Its engineer and general manager, Colonel Holman Fred Stephens, is commemorated in an award-winning museum at Tenterden. The present-day motive power has a variety of backgrounds. Locomotives with Southern Railway or military backgrounds feature strongly, and all except one are tank locomotives. Carriages range from lovingly restored Victorian wooden carriages to the 1950s. The flagship service is the 'Wealden Pullman' dining train. All meals are cooked on board and served by the largely volunteer staff in the finest Pullman tradition, maintaining a reminder of a more elegant age.

The Llanberis Lake Railway will be the highlight of your visit to Snowdonia. The Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust was established in 1995 with the aim of buying the then-disused line between the Norfolk market towns of Dereham and Wymondham, and restoring regular passenger services for the first time since the line closed in 1969. We currently own 26km (16 miles) of track through central Norfolk's most attractive countryside, making us one of the largest preserved railways in the UK today.
