The West Somerset Railway, the longest heritage (steam) railway in the UK, runs for 20 miles through beautiful Somerset countryside, from Bishops Lydeard near Taunton, to Minehead on the Bristol Channel coast. The quality of the rolling stock and engines is excellent, as is the welcome from the staff, many of whom are volunteers. The catering is superb, particularly the Quantock Belle dining train - it's very enjoyable having taditional English Sunday Lunch whilst watching the lovely Somerset scenery slip by. The ten stations along the line have all been wonderfully restored, recreating the authentic atmosphere of a 1950's branch line. Words cannot fully describe the experience of travelling behind a steam locomotive, the sight, the sounds, the smells - fantastic. All-in-all a magnificent day out and very good value for money - highly recommended.

The WSR is a fantastic heritage railway that runs for over 20 miles which makes it the longest preserved standard gauge railway in the UK.``It runs form Taunton to Minehead, and is a great way to see the Somerset contryside and all it has to offer.``Steam engines, diesel engines and period choc and cream MK1 coaches-what more could one ask for?!``Well worth a visit-good friendly staff who are all very knowledgeable about their duties and to the history of the railway.``Next time you are in Somerset give the WSR a visit-you will not be disappointed.
